Fall Fashion is honestly something I look forward to ALL YEAR. It’s better than winter fashion because in the winter your cute outfit is always covered by a coat and scarf anyway. In the fall, you get to layer without dying of sweat (I live in Texas) but you don’t have to dress for any crazy elements.
This year I am particularly in love with a few things that have quickly become my favorite purchases and therefore, Fall Must-Haves!!
I attended a fashion show in Houston recently that was hosted by Ken Downing, Fashion Director for Neiman Marcus. Ken said, “If you don’t have velvet in your closet this fall, you might as well not leave the house!” I feel the exact same way. It’s amazing how velvet has exploded on the scene this fall, and it’s looking more sophisticated than ever. I’m seeing super fabulous jewel tones, which are my absolute favorite in velvet. I even saw a pair of super fantastic crushed velvet shoes the other day at Elaine Turner, and a pair of velvet joggers at Stanley Korshak that I am totally drooling over.
Shades of red.
I have literally purchased 4 tops that are shades of red in the past month– most of which are dark, rich, merlot colors… which is apparently something I’m obsessed with right now. I’m even seeing tonal combinations, which I absolutely loooooovvvveeee! (This means wearing multiple shades within the same color palette, such as Burgundy pants, a red top, blush colored shoes.) If you can get something in red velvet, then you’re REALLY winning 😉 My favorite shade of red will always be candy apple red… fire engine red, if you will. But any shade of red is totally on trend this season! Go crazy!
I love neutral tones for fall, but this season I’m finding myself using neutrals to complete my look, from my shoes and handbags to my scarves and jewelry. I would recommend finding a few staple accessory items or shoes in a neutral color (warm shades of brown and tan are my favorite) because I promise you– you will wear them into the ground this fall. I have a pair of tan Chanel booties that I think I’ve already worn 75 times this fall. Any neutral looks amazing with the red and jewel tones, also! Win-win!
What I refer to as “natural” looking jewelry.
Ok, this one might sound strange but let me explain. When I am trying to achieve a casual look but I’m wearing an item that can be viewed as “dressy” (such as the velvet top in the photos above), I love to play it down with jewelry that feels really “natural” or “earthy”. This would include jewelry with leather, horn, or wood accents, druzy, raw crystals, and earthy stones such as turquoise. I personally really love the juxtaposition of mixing a “fancy” material with a raw material, and this fall is the perfect time to experiment with this fun and interesting combination!
So now I want to see it.
